Dear Colleague,

Welcome to homepage for The Maryland Dermatologic Society (MDS).  The MDS is a professional society of both licensed and board certified dermatologists and dermatopathologists in Maryland promoting dermatologic education through clinical conferences and special lectures.

I am honored to announce in conjunction with Hampton University Skin of Color Research Institute, Eastern Virginia Medical School and the University of Maryland School of Medicine, the MDS is hosting the 2013 Skin of Color Symposium: Bench to Bedside.  This 3-day event will be held at the Royal Sonesta Harbor Court Hotel in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor on October 25-27, 2013.  More information available at www. huscri.org/symposium.

The MDS is a source of continuing medical education and venue for meeting colleagues.  Our academic meetings present challenging and interesting patient cases to enhance members’ clinical skills. Invited guest lecturers supplement the patient presentations. Last year, some of our topics included, new tests for melanoma by Dr. Lisa Kauffman, Cardiovascular risk factors in psoriasis by Dr. Alison Erlich and Innate immunity by Dr. Richard Gallo.   Held in the spring and fall, the meetings offer the opportunity to receive several CME Category I credits for the membership fee of $125!   New this past academic year, we held a winter dinner meeting with Dr Bernard Cohen, who lectured on Pediatric Emergencies at McCormick and Schmick’s restaurant.

However, we offer more than just continuing medical education credits.

We are active legislatively through a recently formed partnership with MedChi, The Maryland State Medical Society.  We are working with MedChi and the American Academy of Dermatology toward the prohibition of indoor tanning for minors in Maryland.  We support an outright ban on tanning of minors, such as exists in California and in Howard County, MD.

If you have questions or to request an application, please call Alex Mirabile by phone at 410-539-0872 ex. 3367 or by email at [email protected]. You will be presented for membership at the Fall MDS Clinical Conference.

Please feel free to contact me should you have any questions or ideas. Thank you for visiting the website for The Maryland Dermatologic Society I look forward to seeing you at our future educational meetings.

Sincerely,

Jill Allbritton, MD
